State of the Art Hair Washing

Have you ever left a hair salon wondering what they’d done to make your hair feel so soft? Was it the state-of-the-art products? The state-of-the-art tools?

Maybe. But it could be something much simpler than that. Introducing, state-of-the-art hair washing!

First, some easy to follow steps:

1. Wet hair thoroughly

Before applying any product to your hair, let your hair wet completely in lukewarm water.

This might take longer than you think, especially if your have thicker, lower porosity hair.

Water will help open the cuticles in your hair, so that it can absorb your conditioner better later on.

2. Apply shampoo

There are many different shampoos out there made for different types of hair. Choose the one that’s right for your hair.

It’s also important to apply the correct amount of shampoo for your hair length, enough to get a good cleanse, but not too much to where you can’t get it all out.

For short hair, an amount the size of a nickel should be good.

For shoulder-length hair, think quarter-sized.

For long hair, take enough shampoo to roughly cover your palm.

After you have your shampoo in hand, mix it with a little water before applying to the scalp. Remember to focus shampoo on the crown of the head and not the tips of the hair.

3. Massage shampoo into scalp

Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp moving the fingers in circular motions or flexing and unflexing them.

Take care not to scrub with nails or tangle hair.

Continue to massage for 2-3 minutes, getting to every part of the crown.

4. Rinse thoroughly

Its extremely important to wash out shampoo completely. Leftover shampoo can lead to buildup overtime.

We recommend to spend 1 to 2 minutes rinsing out shampoo in cold water.

5. Apply conditioner

Conditioner should be applied to the hair from midpoint to ends. Don’t apply conditioner to the scalp as this can lead to oily/greasy hair.

Let the conditioner sit for 3-4 minutes. You can use this time to detangle the hair with a wide-tooth comb.

6. Rinse

Once again, be sure to get all of the conditioner out of your hair by rinsing thoroughly with cold water.

7. Dry

Once your out of the shower, its time to dry the hair. For this, use a non-abrasive towel and squeeze or pat your hair (as opposed to rubbing it).

If you don’t have a cotton/microfiber towels, you can use old cotton T-shirts.
